About The Project
Coreus are delivereing full multi-disciplnary services for Berkshire College of Agriculture for the refurbishment of Hall Place, a Grade I Listed building, with surrounding buildings and external areas that are Grade II Listed. The scheme involves the renovation of the College’s listed buildings with the aim of extending their lifespan whilst upgrading the facilities to meet the changing teaching requirements of the future. A priority of the brief was for the works to be undertaken in a phased manner across 6 separate ‘blocks’ which include offices, classrooms, residential suites, and canteens. During the initial design phase, Coreus utilised its detailed and extensive cost database to provide the client with numerous cost estimates to support each block and the various options. Due to the historic nature of the buildings, our Quantity Surveyors collaborated closely with our Building Surveyors to prepare fully costed condition surveys. These formed part of the optioneering assessments for each asset and informed decision-making in relation to prioritising the building enhancements that could be delivered within the project budget. Within our overall scope of delivery, extensive work was undertaken to appraise, manage and apply a cost impact to the risks surrounding the existing facilities. Where practical, surveys were procured such as asbestos, mechanical and electrical surveys and condition surveys. Due to the condition of the buildings, it was key that allowances for residual risks were captured within the cost estimates to inform the overall budget.
