It was recently shared that University of Plymouth’s Fitzroy building is the University’s first in use net zero carbon building – with no emissions being associated with the buildings energy consumption.
The refurbishment utilised an existing concrete frame, rather than demolishing and rebuilding. As a result this has saved 800 tCO2e.
The building incorporates air source heat pumps and local electric water heaters – This reduces the building’s gas use to zero. The building’s energy use intensity is 61 kWh / m2 – This means that the building exceeds the UK Net Zero Carbon Building Standard target. This number also exceeds the target for 2050 which is 75 kWh / m2.
Coreus acted as lead consultant of a multidisciplinary team during pre construction to work closely with stakeholders to create a design that reflected the ambitions of the Business School and Net Zero improvements required of the University.
